Ed McLachlan was appointed Head Chef at The Galley Topsham in December 2010 and has devised our new menu from scratch combining his passion for fish and seafood with influences from his travels.

Ed won the Master Chefs Apprentice of Great Britain award in 2009 and is undeniably a rising star in his profession.

Nigel Mitchell has a passion for service, which probably stems from his days helping his uncle run the Punch & Judy tavern in Covent Garden. Since then, Nigel had a career in the RAF and aviation, but launched himself into the hospitality industry when relocating his young family to Padstow in 1997 where he set up a Bed & Breakfast business from scratch (currently rated as most popular in Cornwall by Tripadvisor) and worked for a particularly famous seafood restaurant front of house.

Mike Vian Clark loves food and wine and is a bit of a cook on the quiet. Nigel and Mike met over a pint when Mike was singing in the Cathedral Choir in Exeter where Nigel’s eldest son was a chorister. Mike is a Devon lad, growing up in the South Hams near Newton Ferrers and going to school in Exeter and Plymouth, however, he has Italian roots too so his love of food is probably genetic!

Nigel and Mike were looking for a suitable venue to combine their respective passions for food and service when The Galley came up in Mike’s home town of Topsham.
