The Galley Restaurant is operated by Mitchell Restaurants Ltd, trading as The Galley, registered in England & Wales (Company No. 07410018). Our registered address is 41 Fore Street, Topsham, Exeter, Devon, EX3 0HU. VAT No. GB 100 9990 23.
Reservations
Making a booking
Reservations can be made online via our booking system (ResDiary), by telephone on 01392 876078, or by email at [email protected]. A booking is confirmed once you receive a written confirmation from us.
Deposits
No-shows (no arrival) are an industry issue. To secure a booking, we take a deposit of £20 per person. The amount will be made clear before you confirm. Deposits are deducted from your final bill on the night.
Cancellations and no-shows
We are a small restaurant and late cancellations make a real difference to us. We ask that you give us as much notice as possible if your plans change.
- Cancellations made more than 24 hours before your reservation: no charge and any deposit is refunded in full. Refunds can take up to 10 working days.
- Cancellations made within 24 hours of your reservation: the deposit is non-refundable.
- No-shows (no arrival): the full deposit is retained.
If you are running late, please call us on 01392 876078. We will hold your table for 15 minutes before releasing it to another guest. If you know you will be significantly late, please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate you.
Party size changes
If the size of your party decreases significantly (three or more fewer guests than booked), please let us know as early as possible. We may apply a charge per head for reductions made within 24 hours of the booking.
Dietary requirements and allergies
Please tell us about any dietary requirements, allergies, or intolerances at the time of booking. We will do our best to accommodate you, but we cannot guarantee that dishes will be entirely free from specific allergens due to the nature of a working kitchen. See our allergen information page for full details.
Children
Children are welcome at The Galley. We do not have a children's menu; our kitchen is happy to adapt dishes where possible — please ask when you arrive. A high chair is available.
Dogs
We are a small restaurant. Dogs are politely declined.
Gift vouchers
Purchasing
Gift vouchers are available in varying denominations via our website. Payment is processed securely by our voucher provider, GiftPro. Vouchers are delivered digitally by email and may be printed by the recipient or can be posted.
Validity
Gift vouchers are valid for 12 months from the date of purchase. The expiry date is printed on the voucher. We cannot extend expired vouchers.
Redeeming
Vouchers can be redeemed against food and drink at The Galley during any service. Please present your voucher (digital or printed) when you arrive or when you settle the bill. Vouchers cannot be exchanged for cash. If the bill is less than the voucher value, the remaining balance stays on the voucher. If the bill exceeds the voucher value, the difference is payable by the guest.
Lost or stolen vouchers
We are not responsible for vouchers that are lost, stolen, or used without the holder's permission. Please treat your voucher like cash.
Gift Voucher Returns
Gift vouchers can be refunded in full within 14 days of purchase, provided they have not been used. To request a refund, contact us at [email protected]. After 14 days, vouchers are non-refundable.
Private dining
Private dining bookings are subject to a separate agreement which will be provided at the time of enquiry. That agreement sets out the seating/room provision, any room charge, minimum spend, deposit, cancellation terms, and menu arrangements for your event. In all matters not covered by the private dining agreement, these general terms apply.
The menu and pricing
Our menu changes daily, written by our Head Chef each morning based on what has landed at Brixham and Newlyn markets. The menu shown on our website reflects the most recent service but is not guaranteed to be identical to the menu on the day of your visit. All prices are inclusive of VAT at the current rate. We reserve the right to change prices without notice.
A discretionary service charge of 12.5% is added to all bills. This is paid entirely to the team. You may ask for it to be removed at any time, no questions asked.
Website
The content on our website is provided in good faith and for general information only. We make no warranties about the completeness or accuracy of the content. Links to third-party websites are provided for convenience only and do not constitute an endorsement.
We reserve the right to update or withdraw the website at any time. We are not liable for any loss arising from reliance on information on the website.
Liability
Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation. Subject to that, our total liability to you in connection with your use of the restaurant, website, or services shall not exceed the amount paid by you for the booking or purchase in question.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any dispute will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
